Pre-owned Rolex Day-Date 36 ref 18238 (1996) pairs one of the most iconic gold luxury watches of all time with a truly remarkable dial. The Day-Date has always been a symbol of luxury and success, with its glittering fluted bezel, precious metal finish, and exclusive President bracelet. However, it was ref. 18238 that really paved the way for the modern generation as we know it today, featuring contemporary design elements like tougher sapphire and a higher beat movement via the caliber 3155 with a Double Quickset for both the day and the date. The first generation of 6-digit models eventually replaced this model, but it always holds a special place in Rolex history. The example you see here features a black onyx dial that stands in stark contrast to the warm yellow gold finish. What’s more, it displays the time with just four markers: A date for 3 o’clock, the day spelled out in full for 12 o’clock, and two diamond-studded Arabic numerals for 6 and 9 o’clock.
