Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date set the standard as the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week in full, and it has remained the brand’s flagship ever since, always crafted in precious metals. References like the 18038 helped bridge vintage and modern Rolex, introducing updated features while keeping the classic look intact. This model is powered by the caliber 3055, which introduced the Quickset function for the date, a major convenience at the time. It was later replaced by the ref. 18238, which added a Double Quickset for both the day and date. That puts the 18038 in a unique spot in the lineage.
