Pre-owned Rolex Air-King ref 116900 (2017) marked a major shift for a model that had traditionally been one of Rolex’s simplest designs. When it debuted in 2016, Rolex gave the Air-King an entirely new identity, moving away from the understated 34mm dress-style models that had defined the line for decades. The ref. 116900 featured a larger 40mm Oyster case and a bold, instrument-inspired dial influenced by cockpit gauges and aviation timing equipment. The dial is instantly recognizable. Large 3, 6, and 9 Arabic numerals sit alongside prominent minute markers, with the Rolex logo printed in green to match the sweeping green seconds hand. Luminescent hour markers and hands keep the watch easy to read in low light, while the smooth bezel and stainless steel Oyster bracelet give it a sporty, modern feel. Although the ref. 116900 remained in production for several years, Rolex eventually discontinued it in favor of the updated ref. 126900, making this version the watch that redefined the modern Air-King.
