The Datejust itself debuted in 1945 as the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date display that automatically changed at midnight, a feature that was groundbreaking at the time and helped establish the blueprint for countless watches that followed. More than half a century later, the ref. 16233 carried that legacy forward while becoming a defining Rolex of the 1980s and 1990s. Two-tone Datejusts were especially popular during the 16233’s production run.
